The First Nations Education Steering Committee (FNESC) and First Nations Schools Association (FNSA) are pleased to announce an upcoming Learning Series and Regional Training to support Individual Education Plan (IEP) development and implementation in First Nation schools.

In-Person Regional IEP Workshop

SEP staff will be facilitating two-day, in-person regional trainings and workshops. The first day of the workshop will focus on Functional Behaviour Assessments and Executive Functioning. On the second day, the following staff will be available to provide support and input:

  • An IEP Coach, the Severe Behaviour Coordinator, the Executive Function and Developmental Disability Coordinator and the Complex and Physical Exceptionality Coordinator
  • An SLP, OT, and PT will be all be available to support attendees with the IEPs for students in their schools.
  • SEP staff will be available to provide feedback on IEP goals, suggest interventions and ways to support students that can be included in an IEP, and provide suggestions for how to implement IEP goals.
  • There will be opportunities for First Nations’ school staff to share their experiences and expertise with each other.

IEP Regional Support Workshop Schedule

Day 1

  • 9:00 am – 2:00 pm Functional Behaviour Assessments
  • 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm Executive Functioning Support for Students with Exceptionalities

Day 2

  • 9:00 am – 4:00 pm IEP Support from the SEP Team

Please note that while participants will be responsible for paying their own travel and accommodation expenses, as well as all food and incidentals related to travel to and from the event; SEP Funding Grants can be used to cover the travel costs for participants to attend this in-person event.

Eligibility

  • Learning Assistance Teachers (or the equivalent) working in First Nation Schools are eligible to attend this event.

  • Only registered participants are eligible to attend. Family and friends cannot attend the event at any time, including for meals. The decision to attend in-person events is a personal one and it should be made in consideration of your individual risk factors and vulnerabilities.

Travel Expenses

Please note that participants will be responsible for paying their own travel and accommodation expenses, as well as all food and incidentals related to travel to and from the event. FNESC and FNSA will pay for the facility, presenter fees, breakfast and lunch (which will be provided at 8:00 am and 12:00 pm respectively) during the event.
